My writing partner Paul and I discuss NYE pitches
Me: RomCom pitch. "New Year's Steve": Hard-working, down-to-Earth, but unlucky-in-love Julie (Katherine Heigl) has to choose between her ex, the handsome and suave but emotionally distant Bobby (Bradley Cooper) and the sweet and funny Steve (Jack Black) during a raucous New Year's Eve party in a swanky New York City loft.
Paul: "The last airplane" : y2k hits, and two Lava Life (TM) matches find themselves disconnected and half-way across the country from one another. As absense makes their hearts grow fonder, they begin an incredible journey of love and hope: how far can love go without so much as a dial-up modem?
Me: "Laser Babies": an elite team of baby mercenaries must rescue the world from a derranged scientist, hell bent on setting off a nuclear weapon in Times Square on New Year's Eve. Featuring the voices of Owen and Luke Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Rosanne Barr, and John Cleese. Written, directed, and produced by Owen and Luke Wilson. (In IMAX 3D)
Paul: "Y2Gay" - Based on the beloved children's novel. When homophobia rears its ugly head during the holiday season, Adam (Adrien Brody) and Steve (Adam Sandler) decide enough is enough, and plot festive revenge against their hometown of Barrhead, Alberta. Filmed on Location! Festive, tolerance teaching.

My grandma just told a story about putting a joker from a deck of cards in her friends Christmas card, “because she’s funny and we call her the joker.” In my world, this means my grandma is an insane murderer.
