Remember when you asked me what the most Australian song was? I changed my mind.

“The Angels tried three times in the late 1970s and early 1980s to make a hit out of the song Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again?, but it wasn’t until the song played live attracted, in the mid-1980s, a chant response from the audience (to the question posed in the song title), that the song became an iconic part of Australian culture.

The audience chant response, “No way, get fucked, fuck off”, has now become the most famous audience chant in Australian rock history.”

This is spectacular. Way to redeem yourself, Australia.

Everyone anxiously/patiently/insufferably waiting for their turn to access Mailbox, just chill out. If you think a new app is going to solve the terrible scourge of email in your life, just move on. You suck at email because YOU suck at email. It isn’t email’s fault, and it surely isn’t the fault of the already-available, functional apps.

You just suck. You could probably get over it and not suck; realize that how you view email — fucking email, man — is silly. Maybe chuckle at yourself a bit; shake your head knowingly with a little smirk.

But you won’t. You will wait your turn and you will eventually get to use a new email app and you will think you have become an email pro, but you will still suck. Because you still think worrying about something like email is an important use of your time.

And that’s fine, but really, I can think of a myriad of real things you should worry about fixing other than fucking email. Like maybe call your parents? Or a grandparent? I bet you don’t call them enough. But you don’t realize it, because you are too busy sweating over your inbox unread count. When was the last time you read a book? Maybe a while? I can promise you that 10,000 words of a mediocre novel is better for your brain than 100,000 words of emails sent and received. Or just go for a walk. Maybe out in the snow. It’s brisk and nice and will do you good.

Or just keep waiting, and keep sucking at email. It’s cool.

While talking to Paul (a professional arts writer guy or whatever) about how I don’t really know anything on anyone’s year-end “Best Of” music lists, I realized there were at least five (six, in fact) albums that came out last year that I really enjoyed. They are, in no particular order:

AC Newman - Shut Down The Streets
WHY? - Mumps, etc.
Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss (minus that one song she does with the loser from Owl City goddamnit Carly what is wrong with you?)
Rah Rah - The Poet’s Dead
Kimbra - Vows
Tanlines - Mixed Emotions (which would probably be my favourite album out of all of these.)

None of these albums are as good as Substance by New Order, which came out in 1987 and is probably the album I listened to the most in 2012.
